An event co-organized by the North Borneo History Enthusiasts and Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu.
Look out for us February 10-12, 2012 at Gaya Street/Lintasan Deasoka.
When it came to North Borneo’s almost obscure history, there are too many things to talk about. Hence, Gaya Street as a focal and starting point. Think of Kota Kinabalu as an atom and Gaya Street being its nucleus. Even in the old days, Jesselton’s evolution to what it is today started with Bond Street and its first row of 17 shophouses.
Part tribute, and part celebratory–BWGS aims to be humble and community-centred project for our culture, history and heritage.
The project as a whole is about us through old photographs, talking about it and collecting and archiving them.
We want to excite feelings of nostalgia and even joy in the stories that made us grow as a community.
We want to talk about our social-histories; the kind of stories that our parents told us or our grandparents.
We want to talk about collective memories; the kind of stories that gives us an understanding of our voice and identity.
We want to bond with Gaya Street.
