Wayang Free at the Padang Merdeka!

For some, the ‘Wayang Free’ (also known as ‘wayang pacak’) is a trip down memory lane. For those of us who weren’t born in the ’30s – ’60s, it’s the first time an open air cinema has come to Kota Kinabalu!

We’re proud to announce that Bonding with Gaya Street kicks off tonight with the Wayang Free at Padang Merdeka. Although the initial BWGS program says the movie starts at 8pm, we are inviting you to come earlier to listen to some rare Kadazan and Dusun songs from the ’60s and watch two early documentaries sponsored by Jabatan Penerangan on Sabah and the Formation of Malaysia.

The rest of our features are a secret. We can only tell you that they will be two short films followed by a feature horror film by our very own Sabahan filmmakers! Yes, we’re going local, baby!

Which films are they? Well, it’s a surprise. That’s why you’ve gotta come see for yourself!

That’s 7-8pm, Friday the 10th of February 2012. Bring your own tikar, snacks, mosquito repellant and plastic bags for trash. It’s going to be a night to remember. 🙂
